Studying the Bible “Week One”

Filed Under (Sunday School Class) by christian on 28-04-2009

WOW! I would have to say I failed in God’s eyes. Finding time to read the Bible this past week was harder than I thought. My life has become so programmed to fill my time with useless things that finding time to read the Bible was tough or should I say not a priority. Its amazing how Satan tells you of what show you could be missing or how this thing over here needs to be done. Anything for him to move you away from quality time with God’s word. I did read 1 John Chapters 1 -5 but side stepped the needed reading a couple of days. I am praying that I will do better this week to remove myself from “The Stuff” that takes me away from spending time with God and His Word. This is going to be tough and I will need your prayers for this Spiritual Journey of Discipleship.

I have to admit that my level of excitement for this class grows more and more each week. Kudos to Brother Al Sosa for his God given wisdom on studying God’s Word. These past 2 weeks have been a good starter for me and I have learned a couple things that will help me study God’s Word and spend more time with Him.

This past week we finished lesson 2. We went over “The writers of the Bible” and 2 characteristics
1. Inspiration “All Scripture is inspired by God”
2. Authority “Final truth, official law and power to give commands

“Transmission of the Bible”
1. God gave men revelations by His Holy Spirit to write the Bible”

“Unity of the Bible”
1. There are 66 books in the Bible but they represent One Book, one history and one story. The main idea is God’s plan of redemption for man.

The Old testament and the New testament work in unity. The Old Testament is Christ concealed and The New Testament is Christ revealed. The central figure of both Testaments is Christ. Each Books shows him in a different way.

Take a moment to listen to this song that depicts Christ in each book of the Bible.

McDonald’s MIlkshake Schedule

Filed Under (General) by christian on 28-04-2009

” I wish there was more time in the day” is a quote often heard. We hear it from people that are too busy to get anything done. Anything that matters. Most times our accomplishments at the end of the day, although plentiful, leaves us feeling empty as if we accomplished nothing. Where did the time go? I didn’t get anything accomplished! We sometimes prioritize in the wrong order and chaos ensues. Our accomplishments end up like a McDonald’s Milkshake: “All Air and No Substance” I have fallen into this process.

This sometimes carries over to our spiritual lives and it creates a feeling of emptiness even after we have been fed at Church. We tend to think that God Controls our life at Church and once we get in the car, we are in control again. We set our schedule. We prioritize our lives and what we will do, how we want to do it and at what time we will do it. Our time is better spent doing other things instead of prioritizing more time with God, seeking Him and reading His Word. I am not saying we should become monks, but we should place our time under a magnifying glass and see where we have squeezed God out of our lives and say we are too busyl

  • Instead of watching “American Idol” Read how idols are an abomination to God.
  • Instead of watching ” Dancing with the stars” Read how King David danced before the Lord in 2 Samuel and how God made the stars in Genesis
  • Instead of watching “Lost” Read how YOU can found.
  • Instead of watching “CSI” Read about El Shaddai.
  • Instead of watching “The Amazing Race” Read in Hebrews “let us run with patience the race that is set before us. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith;”

Put down that book and pick up The Good Book. Put down that remote and pick up God’s remote let him change the channels of your life so your spiritual life doesn’t end up like a McDonald’s Milkshake

Sunday School “The Forgotten Spiritual Meal”

Filed Under (Sunday School Class) by christian on 24-04-2009

As Brother Al Sosa stated in his blog. First things first…. I would love to let you all know how great it was to be back in Sunday School. I have to admit that I have not attended Sunday School for years. I think we treat Sunday School like its an option for us as Christians. We kind of treat our Church life like the “Al A Carte” meals at a fast food restaurant and feel like attending service at 10:30 is all the spiritual food we need.

Let me tell you this past Sunday was like the appetizer or the morning coffee for the 10:30 Service. I felt like WOW I have been missing all this great teaching and discipleship that happens in Sunday School. I remember my Parents taking us to Sunday School every Sunday morning and this past weekend not only brought the nostalgia back, but it also brought back the foundation and Spiritual principles that were instilled in me by my Parents. I often used the excuse that is was too early for me to attend Sunday School but yet last weekend proved to me that this is not the case. I was usually up in time to get ready to go to Sunday School anyway.

Sunday School is not just for kids but for people of all ages. Sunday School is about discipleship. Its about fellowship with our Brothers and Sisters in Christ and its about learning the Word of God and how to live the life Christ wants us to live. To be more like Him.

I encourage you to come out on Sunday morning and get filled with the 3 course meal God intended you to have.
1. To be discipled so we can be obedient to The Great Commision and evangelize.
2. To worship so we express to God His true “Worth” and that He is worthy to be praised.
3. To fellowship with our Brothers and Sisters and build up the body Christ and encourage and uplift one another.

New Sunday School Class

Filed Under (Sunday School Class) by christian on 22-04-2009

Well The first Sunday of the new class “Understanding the Bible” was a bust for me. I don’t mean bust as in Bad but the fact that I didn’t make it because of working late. 3:30 am to be exact. There were 13 people that attended this class for the first Sunday. The material is all gone but they are getting more. I am so excited for what God has in store for me in this class. I look forward to sharing my experience with all of you and how God has enriched my life by better understanding how to study His Word.

God Bless,

Christian Chavez
